Week 5 Project 5c

  • Meredith Porter, component 4a, My California authors: Dumas, Major, Chabon, and Kamen Goldmark.
  • I learned from Meredith's summaries that Berkeley can be a very confusing place! I have never been there, but know several people that have or have lived here, so have heard horror stories about their streets! Also, that the city has municipal ordinances in place to prevent new businesses from taking over the old industrial buildings. This creates a nice historical and diversified feel within the city.
  • I have always known that Berkeley was a strange place, just not how strange of a place. I researched a little about Berkeley as I was considering using it in projects 2-3, but didnt read about all its little "quirks" that make it what it is today.
  • I think it is interesting how reading a story or response about a place can change the previous perceptions that you had about it. You're ideas can be changed so easily as you take in new information.
  • Projects 2-3 helped me understand just how different each city can be, no matter how close they are. Several of the essays in the textbook were so descriptive that it helped me see how different the cities were.
